How do you choose your hosiery?

  • What decisions do you consider when choosing your hosiery?  Is it the color, shine, denier, reviews, price, curiosity?  Has someone recommended a particular brand or have you seen an individual wearing a certain pair and wanted to try them yourself?  And do you stick with one brand/style and stay loyal or do you like to try a variety of styles?

  • Wow, lots to cover there. I am loyal to a brand that I like, however I am open to trying something new. I do have to admit, when I find that pair that has the feel, texture, and look that I like, I stick with it. Because of that it drives me to be a little (well maybe a little more than a little) resistant to change. Color is a big one for me along with denier, 20d to 30d is the range I stick with. Then it's the look of them. Sometimes I want some shine and sometimes I want a more smooth blended semi-shiny look. That's my MO on pantyhose!

  • I like a silky sheer to waist pantyhose, 15-20 denier, with the right amount of elasticity where they don't sag through the day. My current favorites are the Wolford Sheer 15s and the Falke Sidenglatt 15's are a close 2nd. I'm concerned that Wolford may be discontinuing the Sheer 15 line so I've been looking for a replacement. I'm testing a number of brands / styles over the next few months and I'll be doing write ups.

  • Escape Road Game, Has anyone tried the Wolford or Falke brands? I’ve heard they’re good but don’t know if they’re worth the price.

  •    When I was young, suntan and brown were the most common pantyhose I would see on women.   I was fascinated by the look...they smoothed out legs, added a sexy shine.  I was so curious and eager to experience what it would feel like to wear them myself but so terrified being a male.  Anyway, the suntan and dark tans are colors I still love today and probably one of the most important factors when choosing hosiery.  Anything lighter doesn't really appeal to me.  The suntan and dark tans add a nice color and make your legs look like they have a nice tan.  I also like jet black but not off black colors.  In my early days, I never tried jet black but over the years I grew to like black as well.  I especially loved the look of jet black pantyhose paired with black patent stiletto heels which eventually led to buying a pair.  Definitely a little different being a male but I do like pairing stilettos with black and dark tan hosiery.

Packaging is something that really appeals to me as well.  If I see a package with a sexy photo of a female wearing pantyhose it definitely gets my attention.  I wonder what it would feel like to try that brand, especially if it comes with a tempting description of the item.  I think some people even collect hosiery packaging.

The first pantyhose I wore were control top, in fact, I'm not sure I was aware of sheer to waist at the time.  I've always liked control top, maybe because of my early days.  I don't like lace control tops, I prefer a consistent, solid top.  Bikini tops are fine but I like the boxer style tops the most.  I do like sheer to waist as well but sometimes there is a square patch at the crotch that looks a little odd.  I like the seam on the tops to run down the middle between the butt cheeks and don't like when there are two seams in the back either by design or for bigger sizes.

I do like pantyhose with shine, from a light sheen to some with a real glossy look.  I like the pop you get when when light reflects off the legs.

I like different deniers as well.  I don't buy lower deniers because I always think they are too delicate and may get destroyed but if they are smooth and silky, I'm not opposed.   I've tried most deniers even up to support style hose.  I remember when I was young seeing women wear dark tan support pantyhose when they would exercise (walking, aerobics).  The pantyhose looked great when paired with leotards, short shorts and tennis shoes.  It was a casual look but the combination was memorizing.   And out of curiosity it was something I wanted to try as well.

And curiosity...obviously, is another reason I will decide to try a brand/style of hosiery.  It would be interesting to see how many different manufacturers along with all of their product lines are out there.  I am always excited when I discover a new pair of pantyhose, open the package, feel the contents and then gracefully slide them up my legs to decide if it is something I like or don't care for.

Also, I always seem to focus on women's brands of pantyhose.  I will look at what is offered to men but female pantyhose just seem to be much more elegant, sexy, and the selection is far superior.  Plus, women's pantyhose fit me just fine and I like the idea that I'm wearing something intended for females.

  •     I'm probably way too detailed and particular when it comes to pantyhose, probably more so than most females.

I also like sheer toes, a lot of women seem to like the added protection of reinforced toes and rightfully so, especially if they have longer nails.  I just like the consistency of the fabric running uninterrupted form the toes up to the waist.

Definitely love smooth and silky pantyhose which I think all would agree to.  And as everyone says, pantyhose feel best on freshly shaved legs.  As a male, I knew it was different from societal norms but I wanted to experience wearing pantyhose like women do, so I eventually started to shave my legs in the cooler months when it wasn't obvious.  In my mind I would imagine someone asking why I shaved my legs if they saw them, so just shaving during cooler months seemed the most inconspicuous .  I wanted the clean smooth look and to experience the tactile sensation of wearing something so silky.  I'm not effeminate nor am I trying to pass as a female but I do love when my legs are freshly shaved, taking a pair of silky pantyhose and slowly working them over my toes, gently up my waist, and up around my waist.   If the pantyhose are smooth and silky they feel pleasurable against my skin and it feels equally nice to then rub your hands up and down your legs to feel the texture.  Also, to see my clean shaven legs underneath the pantyhose looks visually appealing.   Yes, my legs do look feminine especially if I compliment them with stilettos and even a skirt.  If the pantyhose are smooth and silky, the skirt feels wonderful sliding up your legs over the hose and your silky feet slip gently into the heels.  Smooth and silky are definitely important when choosing pantyhose, from the time I open the package and feel the material in my hands, to sitting on the edge of my bed and sliding them gently up my legs,  to having the pantyhose completely on and enjoying the sensation as I sit and cross my legs or walking around and enjoying the gentle massage.

As far as seeing someone wearing a particular pair, this has also intrigued me.  For the most part it is hard to tell what brand someone maybe wearing.  But when I see a beautiful female wearing pantyhose that make her look sexy, I definitely become curious.  Hooters waitresses, Playboy Bunnies, cheerleaders all look fantastic wearing pantyhose.  I've been to a Hooter's restaurant and loved how their long legs looked in pantyhose while trying not to look too obvious I was looking at their legs.  At first I didn't know what brand of hosiery they wore but when I eventually found out, I purchased my own to see what it felt like to wear their style of hosiery.

Back to curiosity.  I have always been excited when seeing pantyhose displays at department stores.  Once again, being a male, it has always felt awkward staring at the hosiery section let alone getting caught looking through the selection.  When I was young, I was aware of the pantyhose on display but didn't want to be embarrassed by looking at them too long.  As I got older, I would eventually start looking at and purchasing pantyhose at discount department stores.  It was always a little nerve-racking looking through the selection to find something that might be fun to wear.  I would initially wait until nobody was around to enter the section and then when I found something, buy a few other items to make it look like I wasn't strictly shopping for pantyhose.  I eventually built up enough nerve to shop at regular department stores, where there was a greater selection and sometimes better quality pantyhose.  I would shop away from town just to avoid someone recognizing me.  It was always scary walking into the hosiery section wondering what people might be thinking but it was also exciting searching through the different brands and styles, spending the time to find the right size and color, wondering how the pantyhose would look and feel.  At regular department stores and higher end department stores, the sales reps tend to approach you more often and ask if you need help.  Sometimes I would just say I'm fine, others times I would have small coversations.  I would always make it clear that I was shopping for myself and that the pantyhose were for me.  I never had a problem other than being nervous and the sales reps were always fine to deal with.  In my mind I would always wonder what they were thinking and if they would have conversations about having a male customer buying pantyhose for himself.  When I was really young the thought of buying pantyhose terrified me but if I knew it wasn't so bad, who knows, maybe I could have been buying and wearing at a younger age.  None the less,  walking into the hosiery section allowed me to finally try and experiment with a lot more brands of pantyhose.

In my next post, I will talk about building up enough nerve to go shopping for high end hosiery at a Wolford Boutique.
