6 are good but 8 is ideal for my needs. 4 just doesn't get it done securely. 10 is ridiculous overkill.
@Carrie Stuart such glorious reinforced toes and heels!
@hunterloveshose Thanks Hunter. Those are Cromye 20 by Elly stockings. They offer that traditional 1950s look (sans back seam) for a really decent price. They are a go-to daily wear type of stocking for me. Not at all costly but still offer great durability and style. I believe the shade I'm wearing in this shot are "glace".
Those look absolutely fantastic. I think black would look great as well
@Carrie Stuart I of course love how you'll spend the time on gartered stockings for daily wear too. You're of course a true sheer hosiery lover as demonstrated by your amazingly detailed posts. You're a hero of mine. (esp since you also love the 20 denier and less styles as do I)
I've been able to do that (daily wear) with hold ups for the ease and speed of getting dressed. I found that combination (hold ups) best under work day pants (ala a male who's not going to wear a dress/skirt for daily wear) and not being pantyhose that can be bothersome underpants if the glide is not good. In other words, hold ups under slacks/pants with underwear (panties or whatever) a bit more deireable and easier to live with than pantyhose if you're going for fine hosiery as daily wear under pants.
Though pantyhose are still my preferred hosiery over all, and which are quite easier to wear with shorts if you're into wearing that combination as daily wear. As a male, 40 plus denier in darker shades with shorts I've been able to pull off w/o feeling too obnoxious.
Of course being the obsessed hosiery lover/collector I have had quite a number of styles and brands over the years of hold ups and traditional gartered stockings. Looking these up, I see 84% Nylon, 16% Lycra which also means I bet they fit great and are softer (necessarily) than some 100% stockings and are probably a bit more durable. Having the lycra content WITH reinforced heel is something I haven't seen too often.
You've piqued my curiosity again, of course. I'll have to get a pair. Certainly looks terrific with a proper polished pedicure. Thanks for responding with the details!
@SD I've got them in black, too. That's such a classic look.
Usually when I order a style in any hosiery, I'll usually get them in a nude shade and black, for starters. If they turn out to be a good purchase, then I look into other shade options.
@Michelle Renee I second that but in medium sizes, too. Black and white are all I really wear in terms of colour. I have several 6 garter strap types but 8 is a lot harder to find unless you want to deal with UK and overseas web sites and spend well north of $100 and closer to $200 in some cases. (not my preference at all) I want good quality but I hate getting ripped off just because it's not an article in high demand and is pretty much niche market only.
But I don't get the sense that Shapings is exactly growing their stocking options nor their accessories, so I think we're both out of luck in that regard. 😞
@hunterloveshose Thanks, Hunter.
I love the luxious and sensual experience of traditional stockings and garters. I grew up in the post era when all we had (or all I knew about) was pantyhose. It wasn't until I was mid career as a flight attendant that I wanted to experiment with actual stockings. Sure, there were plenty of stay ups around then but it wasn't until I was working an overseas flight one night with a pretty senior crew that the thought occurred to me about gartered stockings. One of the girls working up front in first class was wearing a really beautiful pair with her uniform. I only figured it out when we were both taking a crew break, eating our dinners, and she discretely reattached and snugged up one of her garter straps up while we sat together in the last row of seats in business class.
Well, from that moment on I was asking her all about them...where she bought them, how much, and how convenient wearing them was compared to pantyose. She told me she mostly bought hers in either London or Frankfurt when on a layover. Back home in Canada there wasn't much to be found in the major department stores that she would recommend.
Long story shorter, I went out shopping with her in London and dropped a few pounds on a couple of pairs and a "suspender belt" as they call it over there. I never wore them with my uniform as they were far too nice and too expensive for that sort of environment, but I loved to go out for dinner and drinks while secretly wearing them under my skirt. It was akin to doing something forbidden, or bad, when I was a little girl. It was a bit of a thrill that only I knew about. (unless I felt like sharing my secret to the friend I was with)
The 100% nylon stockings are an amazing sensation. I love Cervin and Gio brands for those. 100% nylon are when you need a really good garter belt with a minimum of 6 straps for a secure taught fit. Nothing else will do if you want to get the best look out of them on your legs. A little tell tale wrinkle near your ankles and occasionally your knees is fine as long as the belt has the ability to maintain a strong enough tension in order to smooth your stockings out again without you having to do it all the time by hand every time you stand up. That activity draws too much attention. They're not an everyday thing for me at all, but rather a special treat when I want to add a bit of spice to my outfit and heels. They're worth the effort and extra care I have to take when wearing them for a fun or special night. More girls should experience it, if only to feel the difference they make when you wear them. 😋
I also have lots of stay ups, and do enjoy that option as well. They're a very quick and convenient way to throw on some nice hosiery without having to go to much trouble and take a bit more time to put on either pantyhose or gartered stockings. I hardly ever wear pants. It's 95% skirts. If I wear jeans with heels, I'm usually in pantyhose underneath. Skinny jeans are a real PITA to get into and get out of without something smooth and slippery between my skin and the jeans. No way could I wear stay ups underneath because you'd see the outline of the lacy silicon bands around the top of my thighs in jeans like that. Stay ups are super convenient for when I'm going over to the salon for a mani and pedi in a skirt. Pantyhose are just not an option unless you want to have to go the washroom to get them off and then get them back on again after your pedicure. Stay ups are very quick and discrete to slip down off your legs, and can be slipped back into without putting on a show for the rest of the salon.
I was hanging out in the apartment just wearing a jean skirt when the thought occurred to me that made me wonder how really sheer stockings in black might look with that colour of heel. I wasn't sure if it was a look I could pull off with those shoes. Obviously the jean skirt is totally inappropriate (and beyond way too short for gartered stockings) but I didn't want to drag out a dressy skirt just for this. It was only about the shoe colour and the black nylons.
In the end, I decided those shoes could work if I was doing something a bit more formal or dressy where black hosiery was more elegant. Sometimes, black pumps with black stockings gets to be a bit boring all the time.
FWIW the stockings I'm wearing in this photo are pretty inexpensive CdR Barbara style. They are 20 denier but look more sheer than that because they are 100% nylon. They also have a reinforced toe but not the heel. A pretty good bargain for $10 a pair. (and probably less when you buy a total of 6 pairs of anything or more) I have several pairs in a few different shades. They're great for a classic stocking look. (wrinkles and all)
Those black stockings look fantastic and $10 a pair is a steal, you definitely pulled it off with those shoes.
