Ibici 15 Perfection
We had some pretty nice mid winter springlike weather yesterday here in Calgary. I was inspired to put together a nice outfit and go for a walk to a nearby Shoppers Drugmart and enjoy the warm sunshine and mild temperatures. We've had a bit of a melt down in the past week, so there was absolutely no snow left on the sidewalks or roads. I was jumping for joy not to have to wear boots!!
As I was getting ready and figuring out what I wanted to wear, I opted for a pair of previously worn pantyhose in a darker nude shade that offered a slight sheen in direct sunlight, but are otherwise matte and nearly invisible in regular indoor lighting. I made note of the slight snag in the upper right thigh area but it didn't look too dangerous, and I wasn't worried it would self destruct on me and turn into something unsightly.
After walking several blocks to the pharmacy and most of the way home, I was taken with the notion to drop into a restaurant I often frequent for dinner when the special of the day appeals to my appetite. Yesterday was spaghetti with meat sauce and that struck me as yummy. It's been a couple of months since I'd last eaten pasta and it was still too nice out to want to simply go home that early.
As I was getting myself situated at a table, I leaned over to place my handbag on the floor beside my chair. A glaring bit of something white caught my eye and caused me to double take. Gah...that area of imperfection had become a hole of about a 1/2 inch in diameter. Oh well, I thought. It was high enough up, that my skirt would probably cover it from view. After a glass of wine and some water, I needed to use the washroom before dinner showed up. That's when the hole became a run despite me trying to be really careful and strategic while pulling my pantyhose back up. Most of it ran upwards, under my skirt, but it also extended down maybe an inch...so I thought I could still mostly be ok and not be seen once I made it back to my table. But by evening's end, it had migrated south almost 3 inches, and that became very visible to me.
No one seemed to notice, and nobody pointed it out to me (as though most women don't already know when we've ruined our hosiery), so the rest of the evening passed without any embrassment or drama. But don't you just hate when that happens in a nice pair of otherwise very attractive pantyhose while you're out? It was not so much the cost or anything. I got them for a steal of a price at Shapings a few months ago. But I really love this particular style and shade of colour, and I hate when I kill off a pair after only 2 or 3 wearings. They fit very comfortably and look great on my legs.

PS Some people might want to know what the heels are. Ted Baker-London in black patent with a 4 inch stiletto heel.
@Carrie Stuart fab legs as always! Also hate when my pantyhose run. 😑
@Anna CD Thank you, Anna, You're most kind. 😃 It's been a very long time since that has happened to me while out. I usually notice a run or a problem after washing them and letting them dry over the shower door, as I fold them again and place them back in their original package so I know what I'm reaching for when getting dressed. I'm not usually a victim of some random occurrence when out and about.
I'm pretty good at not being clumsy or bumping into things when I'm wearing nylons. I think that wearing a nice outfit, great heels and beautiful hosiery on ones legs just causes me to behave in a more graceful or elegant way.
For those who are interested...The heels are by Kate Spade. They're in black patent leather with a slim block heel of 4 inches.
@Carrie Stuart I can't stand when that happens, but then again as a guy I am a little hard on my pantyhose.
I guess that's why my wife puts an extra pair in her in purse in case she gets a run.
You have great legs!
Thank you, SD 😀 I'm like your wife...I actually carry a pair of thigh high stockings in my handbag for exactly that eventuality. It was decent weather yesterday but not quite warm enough to be comfortable with a breeze blowing up under my rather short mini on the walk home, albeit a distance of 4 blocks. I prefer to change into stay ups because they're so much easier to get into in the washrrom. It's sometimes not fun to wrestle with pantyhose in a tight stall.
So, I took my chances to not be noticed and opted for warmth and security of an additional layer under my skirt on the way home after sunset.
It's great to see that you were able to enjoy your walk in the warm weather. Walking outdoors is always good, isn't it? Like you, I am sure many of us feel that pang of discontent when we discover a small hole or imperfection in our hosiery.
I wanted to comment that I enjoyed your photos. Although we can't see the whole you, from what we can see, you look chic with your shapely legs and fashionable heels.
@River Thanks. Ya, I like to walk when the errand is a short distance and I won't be carrying anything back that's big or heavy. We had a wicked cold snap accompanied by snow recently that hung in here for about 3 weeks. It was severely cold so I didn't bother venturing out at all. With that short break in the evil cold temperatures, and the emergence of some warm sunshine, it was the perfect excuse to go for a walk and even wear something nice to celebrate the good weather and my brightened mood.
Ya, no...Like a lot of women, I'm not going to put my face or the rest of me out on the internet. It's just not a smart move. Those girls who engage as influencers on various social media platforms are taking a risk exposing themselves to all kinds of creeps who lurk the internet. I don't need any of that in my life. I can offer my specs but I'llleave you to fill in the rest with your imagination.
I'm 5'5" tall and weigh 140 lbs. I have below shoulder blade strawberry blond straight hair, blue eyes and an athletic body type. A Canadian girl with Irish parents. (both sides)
I felt a tear welling up in my eye while reading your post Carrie. It's the absolute worst thing when new or fairly new pantyhose get a run in them. Especially if you're putting them on for the first time. I always wear gloves when putting mine on so that I can at least get them on without putting a run in them. I'm not as careful with them as I wear them more though. It sucks that they are so delicate sometimes. I'll never stop wearing them though. I love your pictures and thank you for sharing them with us.
@Carrie Stuart
My apologies, Carrie. I certainly did not mean to suggest that you should to reveal yourself to us on the forum. As we know, the internet is not always a friendly and welcoming place. If I were in your fashionable shoes, I would not reveal much of myself, either. Your pictures provide enough.
Walking is a terrific activity. Not only is it good for your physical health but also for your mental health. It is great to walk around and get some fresh air. Often when I go for a walk in my neighborhood, I say hello or wave to those nearby. It does not matter whether they are young or old, man or woman, or their ethnicity. That simple gesture always brightens my day.
Now that Old Man Winter is getting ready to retire for another year, I hope you have lots of opportunities to walk about.
@Scott Thanks Scott. Yes, I think any of us who wear sheer hosiery and love what they bring to our wardrobes and worlds, can definitely empathize with the sinking feeling of discovering an unsightly run that spoils the near perfect image of our legs. "Another one bites the dust". Sure, they cost, but it's more the ruining of the moment or evening that I lament the most when that happens.
I, too, resort to gloves when wearing some of my finer hosiery, particularly Gio and Cervin stockings. But 15 denier pantyhose is my primary default in terms of sheerness for everyday wear. I have long but always well manicured fingernails, but have become skilled in using the pressure of my finger pads (and thumbs) to put on and make adjustments. My nails are never used in order to avoid any risk of ruining my day before it's already really begun! Gloves are a prudent practice for sure.
I find certain brands to be more fragile than others, all things being the same...denier and fibre composition. For those, I'll just grab the gloves, having previously experienced disappointment with that particular style. They save my sanity.
@River LoL...Thanks River. Same. Going for a walk on a nice day always elevates my mood and energy. I'll often sit out front in the sunshine and wave or acknowledge others who are passing by in the neighbourhood. It's always nice to exchange a pleasantry or 2 when the opportunity presents.
